Conditions We Treat at Quay Kinetics Physio
At Quay Kinetics we treat the full range of musculoskeletal conditions, from acute injuries and sports niggles to long-standing pain that's been holding you back. Our Chartered Physiotherapists work across two clinics in Exeter (inside the Quay Climbing Centre and at Boulder Exe), and bring specialist experience in spinal pain, sports injuries, climbing-related injuries, postnatal recovery, and vestibular rehab. Whether you're booking your first ever physio appointment or coming to us after seeing someone else, we'll listen, assess properly, and build a plan that fits your life.
You don't need a GP referral. Most clients are seen within a week. Below is a list of conditions we commonly treat, click through to learn more about how we diagnose and treat each one. If you can't see your specific issue, get in touch, we likely treat it.

Common questions about seeing a physio in Exeter
-
No, you don't need a GP referral to see us. As Chartered Physiotherapists, we are autonomous practitioners, fully qualified to assess, diagnose, and treat you directly. This means you can come straight to us and avoid the extra time and hassle of seeing your GP first. If at any point we feel your GP (or another healthcare professional) should be involved in your care, we'll always discuss that with you as part of your personalised treatment plan.
-
Yes, in most cases. We're happy to provide you with a full receipt for you to claim payment back from your insurer, however we do not invoice insurers directly. We require payment upfront, so we recommend that you liaise with your insurers — stating that we are your 'preferred Physio provider' — and then claim back from them after each appointment. If in doubt, please speak to your insurance company directly.

Sooner than most people think. If a pain or injury has lasted more than a few days, is stopping you from doing what you love, or is getting worse rather than better, that's the point to book. Early treatment usually means faster recovery. You don't need to wait until something is severe.
-
Your first appointment is either 30 or 60 minutes depending on which appointment you’ve booked. We'll take a thorough history, ask about your goals, then assess movement, strength, and the specific area you're concerned about. By the end you'll have a working diagnosis, a treatment plan, and usually some hands-on treatment and exercises to start with. We treat the person, not just the body part.
-
It depends on what's going on. Many clients see meaningful change in 2-4 sessions; more complex or long-standing issues may need longer. We'll talk openly about expected timeframes at your first appointment, and we'd rather discharge you when you're better than keep you coming back unnecessarily.
-
Yes please do. MRI scans, X-rays, consultant letters, or notes from a previous physio all help us build a fuller picture. You can bring physical copies or email them ahead of your appointment.

Comfortable clothes you can move in. For lower-body issues, shorts or loose trousers work well. For shoulder or back assessments, a vest top or sports bra helps. We'll always make sure you're comfortable during the assessment.
