  • Where are you based & is there Parking?

We now operate across two locations in Exeter:

Quay Climbing Centre Site 📍 Quay Climbing Centre, Haven Road, Exeter, EX2 8AX Our original clinic is based on the 1st floor of the Quay Climbing Centre, accessed via the main blue doors (stairs only, no lift). Please wait in the café area and your physiotherapist will come to collect you. Pay & display parking is available nearby on Haven Road and at the surrounding car parks. You can check options via this link. This site is ideal if you're coming from South Exeter, Topsham, or Exminster.

Boulder Exe Site (Tudor Street) 📍 Boulder Exe, Tudor Street, Exeter, EX4 3BR Our Boulder Exe clinic is on the ground floor with step-free access throughout — this is our fully accessible site if stairs are a problem for you. It's based inside Boulder Exe, the big grey building that used to be Fitness First, just behind the Holiday Inn Express near Exe Bridges. Paid on-site parking is available right outside the building, managed via the Evology Parking app (there's no payment machine on site, so download the app here before arriving to avoid delays or fines). If you're a Boulder Exe climbing member, enter your car registration at reception for free parking.

Both locations are centrally located and easy to reach by foot, bike, or car. For more on either site, including videos of what to expect, visit our Quay Climbing Centre and Boulder Exe pages — and we're always happy to help with directions when you book.

  • Should I book 30 mins or 1 hour?

We offer both 30-minute and 60-minute appointments for initial assessments and follow-ups, so you can choose what suits you.

For most people, 30 minutes is enough for a thorough assessment and to get treatment started.

A 60-minute session is worth booking if you have more than one issue to address (for example, neck pain and an ankle injury), your condition is complex, or you'd simply like more time for hands-on treatment and rehab guidance.

Not sure which to choose? Get in touch and we'll help you decide.

  • Do I need a GP referral to access Physio?

No — you don't need a GP referral to see us.

As Chartered Physiotherapists, we're autonomous practitioners, fully qualified to assess, diagnose, and treat you directly. This means you can come straight to us and skip the wait for a GP appointment.

If at any point we feel your GP or another healthcare professional should be involved in your care, we'll discuss that with you as part of your treatment plan.

  • What happens when I arrive?

We want you to feel comfortable when you arrive — here's what to expect at each location.

Quay Climbing Centre Site If your appointment is before 10am, the main blue doors may be closed — you're still in the right place. Your physiotherapist will come and let you in at your appointment time.

At all other times, head up to the café on the first floor, where you're welcome to grab a coffee while you wait. Alternatively, you can wait near the treatment room and enjoy the view of the climbing wall. Please don't enter the treatment room until your physio comes to collect you, as it may still be in use.

See a video walkthrough of this site on our Quay Climbing Centre page.

Boulder Exe Site (Tudor Street) Come straight in through the main entrance. You can wait in the café/lobby area at the front, or in the bar area next to the gym and yoga studio.

Your physiotherapist will collect you at your appointment time. Please don't enter the treatment room until invited, as it may still be in use.

See a video walkthrough of this site on our Boulder Exe page.

  • What can I expect at my first appointment?

Your first session begins with a thorough assessment so we can fully understand your problem and build the best treatment plan for you.

    The Conversation

We'll start by talking through your issue and general health. Your physiotherapist will ask detailed questions to build a clear picture of what's going on, including how your symptoms started, how they affect you, and any relevant medical history.

    The Physical Assessment

Next, your physiotherapist will assess your movement, strength, and the specific joints or muscles involved to identify the affected tissues and reach an accurate diagnosis. This will be explained clearly so you understand what's happening and why.

    Treatment

There's often time to begin treatment during your first session. If your case is more complex, the appointment may be needed for assessment alone, but your physiotherapist will explain their findings and outline a clear plan for your next visit. If you've booked a 60-minute session, we'll make sure there's time for both a full assessment and to start treatment on the day.

  • What should I wear for my appointment?

Please wear suitable, comfortable clothing that allows your physiotherapist to access and assess the area being treated.

For lower limb or lower back issues, shorts are ideal. For neck, shoulder, or upper back issues, a vest top or sports bra works well so the area can be properly assessed.

If you're unsure what to bring, just ask when you book and we'll advise based on your specific issue.

  • Do you have disabled access?

We operate from two sites in Exeter, and accessibility varies by location.

    Quay Climbing Centre Site

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions of this older building, there's no disabled access to the first floor where our treatment room is located — there's a flight of stairs at the entrance and further stairs to reception and the café. If you have any concerns about accessibility, please get in touch and we'll do everything we can to support you.

    Boulder Exe Site (Tudor Street)

Yes, this location is fully accessible. The treatment room is on the ground floor with level access, and on-site parking is available just outside the building.

If accessibility is a factor for you, we'd recommend booking at our Boulder Exe site.

  • How do I pay for my appointment?

All appointments must be paid for in full in advance. This is easily done when booking online here. If your Physio books your follow-up with you in the session, then we will take card payment at the time. We prefer not to take cash anymore.

  • Can I use my Health Insurance?

Yes. Many of our patients successfully claim the cost of their physiotherapy through their health insurance.

You'll pay for your appointment at the time of your visit and then submit your claim to your insurer. We're happy to provide a detailed receipt and, where required, additional factual information about your treatment to support your claim.

We're all registered with WPA, so WPA members can book and pay as normal before submitting their receipt for reimbursement.

If you're insured with another provider, we strongly recommend checking your policy before booking. Some insurers require you to see a registered provider or obtain authorisation before treatment begins. Please check with your insurer that your chosen clinician and treatment are covered under your policy, as cover varies between insurers and policies.

We don't invoice insurers directly, and any reimbursement is subject to the terms and conditions of your individual policy.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a gap that could have gone to another patient who needed it.

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments, will be charged the full appointment fee.

If you arrive late, we'll do our best to accommodate you, but we may not be able to extend your session and the full fee will still apply.

If you have any questions or exceptional circumstances, please get in touch — we're happy to help. See our full cancellation policy for more detail.

  • Can I get a physiotherapy appointment this week in Exeter?

Yes, we offer same-week appointments at both our Exeter clinics, subject to availability. Many patients are seen within a day or two of booking, with appointments available at our Quay Climbing Centre and Boulder Exe sites.

You can check live availability and book online instantly, or get in touch if you're not sure which appointment type or location suits you best.
