Will Ashby MSc, BSc (Hons)
Performance Testing Specialist
Supporting climbers and athletes with objective testing, data-driven insights, and tailored strength profiles.
Will is our dedicated Performance Testing Specialist at Quay Kinetics Physio, delivering Exeter’s first climbing-specific and athletic performance testing service at Boulder Exe.
He holds a First Class Honours BSc in Sport & Exercise Therapy and a Master’s degree in Sport & Exercise Medicine from the University of Exeter — a combination that gives him deep scientific grounding and a modern, evidence-based approach to assessing human performance.
Will’s research experience includes climbing-specific strength, finger flexor capacity, and force profiling. He has applied this knowledge in elite sporting environments including the Royal Marines and the Exeter Chiefs, providing high-level performance support and objective data analysis.
His passion lies in helping people understand their bodies better — identifying strengths, uncovering asymmetries, and translating data into simple, actionable training strategies.
At QKP, Will leads our Performance Testing & Strength Profiling service, offering:
Climbing performance assessments using the Tindeq Progressor
Finger Peak Force, RFD and Critical Force analysis
Shoulder strength profiling (ASH test)
Lower-limb strength, balance and plyometric testing
Full-body asymmetry analysis
Personalised training plans delivered via PhysiTrack
Whether you're a climber looking to break into the next grade, an athlete refining your training, or someone returning from injury, Will’s approach helps you progress with clarity and confidence.
Will’s approach
Will believes performance testing should be:
✔ Objective
Using validated tools to measure real, meaningful changes.
✔ Practical
Turning complex data into simple training decisions.
✔ Athlete-centred
Collaborative, educational, and personalised to your goals.
✔ Repeatable
So you can see progress across time — not guess it.
Away from testing and clinic life, Will is happiest outdoors. He once hiked the 3,000km Te Araroa Trail across the entire length of New Zealand — self-supported — an adventure that solidified his love of movement, endurance, and human potential.
Back home in Exeter, you’ll often find him:
Climbing at Boulder Exe
Running local trails
Enjoying a round of golf
Strength training and experimenting with new testing methods
His blend of academic strength, outdoor passion and real-world experience makes him an approachable, grounded clinician who genuinely understands athletic bodies.
